Industrial Application: Major Producer of an Engineered Fiber

Siovation was recently approached by a major producer of an engineered fiber used in the construction industry. The customer’s production process required a new fiber coating to improve lubricity, dimensional stability and static control. Improvement in these properties would dramatically improve the quality of the product, thereby providing cost savings and a competitive advantage.

Details of the physical and economic requirements were collected through a collaborative discovery process. The technical requirements were deemed to fit Siovation’s capabilities and expertise and the economic analysis made sense for both companies. Within the framework of a stage-gate style product development process, prototype samples were created for field trials within about four months. Once the product application rate was optimized, the product was scaled-up and commercial supply began within two weeks. The end result was a one-part silicone elastomer emulsion with performance properties that far surpassed the incumbent technology.

Summary

Siovation provided their customer with a new, commercially viable product improvement within four months of committing resources to the opportunity. While this short cycle time is not applicable to every situation, it demonstrates Siovation’s flexibility and ability to make decisions and rapidly provide our customers with technically sound and economically viable solutions to market demands.
